ForestOne Announces EuroCucina Round 10 A&D Trade Competition Winners for January

Constantly striving to be environmentally conscious through their material choices, the team at Deicke Richards, including Jiale Yuan and Magda Myszkowski, and Sasha van Melick of Peddle Thorp have been named as ForestOne’s Specified Responsibly EuroCucina Trade Competition winners for January. By specifying responsibly with EGGER wood decor products, the winners have gone into the draw for a chance to win the 2024 Grand Prize of a trip for two to EuroCucina in Milan, Italy.

By specifying EGGER’s wood decor products, the Deicke Richards team and Sasha have incorporated environmentally conscious materials in both of their projects. For a school project in Brisbane, Deicke Richards opted for White Grey U775 ST9 decorative board to uplift the interiors, alongside Natural Halifax Oak H1180 ST37. Sasha used Caramel Nude U830 ST9 decor panels and a variety of other colours to bring a more contemporary edge to the Stage 2 expansion of the Mater Hospital Springfield, also in Brisbane.

Deicke Richards’ most recent project was a school for the Queensland Department of Education, which presented a comprehensive development opportunity for the firm. “We were engaged across multiple stages, spanning from initial feasibility studies and master planning to architectural documentation and interior design,” says Magda Myszkowski, a senior interior designer at Deicke Richards. “Our scope encompassed the design and planning of various components of the school campus including the general learning area, administration buildings and sport and recreation facilities.”

Following the brief for a space that prioritised safety, warmth and comfort, the Deicke Richards design fosters a sense of calm. “Utilising a simple and soothing colour palette, we aimed to create an environment with low arousal levels, thereby enhancing student focus and staff wellbeing,” says Magda. Deicke Richards employed EGGER’s compact laminate in White Grey and Natural Halifax Oak. “EGGER is frequently chosen due to the efficiency of its large board sizes, resulting in less material wastage, especially for full-height amenity partitions and benchtops,” she explains.

As sustainability is an integral part of the firm’s approach, the long-term ownership of buildings by its clients is integral to the process. “We also prioritise materials with durability and longevity, and EGGER’s board products meet these criteria while also being cost-effective and sustainable.”

Working with ForestOne’s specification representative, Kellie Cross, Deicke Richards was able to focus on the project knowing it was specifying materials responsibly. “Kellie’s conscientiousness and prompt responsiveness to our requirements – including timely delivery of samples and necessary information – greatly assisted our decision-making process and ensured we stayed updated with stock levels and the latest sampling.”

“EGGER is frequently chosen due to the efficiency of its large board sizes, resulting in less material wastage, especially for full-height amenity partitions and benchtops.”

For Stage 2 of the Mater Hospital Springfield in southern Brisbane, Sasha specified a variety of colourful timber-look laminates including Caramel Nude U830 ST9, Purple U420 ST9 and Siena Orange U350 ST9. “With such a large footprint, the hospital departments are differentiated through feature colours to create well-defined spaces,” she explains. Additionally, “the colours in our finishes palette are selected for their psychological benefits as they assist in creating calming spaces in an environment that can typically be a stressful place for many.”

Without denying that aesthetics play an important part in the specification process, Sasha also points out the benefits of the materials’ durability, sustainability and suitability to the end-user. “EGGER’s antibacterial and responsible material properties align with the client’s infection control standards and GBCA [Green Building Council of Australia] Green Star rating requirements,” she says.

With sustainable design close to her heart, Sasha understands that she can embed sustainability into the built environment and make positive contributions. “Last year I became a GBCA Green Star Accredited Professional [GSAP], equipping me with the knowledge and expertise to guide projects through Green Star certification,” she says. “I’m also a key contributor to Peddle Thorp’s Environmentally Sustainable Design team, ensuring environmental awareness is present in our culture and designs.” With her passion and knowledge, Sasha aims to “educate clients and fellow designers on the importance of environmentally sustainable design and provide responsible design options.”

Additionally, working with ForestOne’s representative, Kellie Cross, simplified the entire process. “Kellie ensured we were informed early on and delivered, in person, multiple alternate selections allowing for minimal interruption while meeting the initial design intent of the project.”

“EGGER’s antibacterial and responsible material properties align with the client’s infection control standards and GBCA Green Star rating requirements.”

By producing environmentally conscious designs, Deicke Richards and Sasha van Melick have exemplified responsible specification with EGGER materials. Entered in the draw for ForestOne’s Specified Responsibly EuroCucina Trade Competition with like-minded designers and architects, the January winners encourage others to follow their lead and specify responsibly.

ForestOne Announces EuroCucina Round 9 A&D Trade Competition Winners

Dedicated to making conscious material choices, Anny Lim of CK Architecture and Tara Wallington of Studio Collective have been recognised in ForestOne’s Specified Responsibly EuroCucina Trade Competition for December. By using EGGER’s wood-based decor products and Specifying Responsibly, Anny and Tara have gone into the draw for a chance to win the 2024 Grand Prize of a trip for two to EuroCucina in Milan, Italy.

By using EGGER’s wood decor products, Anny and Tara have shown considerate material choices throughout both of their projects. Refurbishing two buildings for one of Canberra’s main utility providers, Anny employed Tyrolean Blue U504 ST9 decorative board, while Tara used the Natural Kendal Oak H3170 ST12 decor panel to bring calming interior characteristics to a luxurious retirement village.

To refurbish two Icon Water offices, Anny combined contemporary and natural elements to create a harmonious workspace. “The project aims to optimise the functionality of the office space to accommodate the needs of around 100 staff members,” says Anny. The building’s internal bush-hammered 1970s brutalist concrete walls played a “vital role in shaping the overall interior design aesthetic”, along with the abundant nature that surrounds the site, which “inspired colour palettes and material choices throughout the interior”.

A key consideration was sustainability, with a focus on employing eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient design solutions. “The interior design incorporates sustainable practices, utilising recycled and locally sourced materials to minimise environmental impact,” she says. Anny acknowledges that she chose to work with ForestOne because of the company’s “commitment to a closed material cycle, aligning with the project’s sustainability goals. ForestOne’s dedication to environmentally friendly manufacturing processes resonates with the project’s eco-conscious approach.”

Anny and, in turn, CK Architecture, believe in “creating spaces that foster environmental consciousness for the people who inhabit them, aligning with our vision of human-centric design,” she says.

She attributes her success in choosing the correct materials for the project to her specification representative Annette Fanna’s extensive knowledge of ForestOne’s products. “Annette’s expertise has been invaluable, as she is consistently available to address any queries as well as provide insights into the responsible and sustainable attributes of ForestOne’s offerings.”

“ForestOne’s dedication to environmentally friendly manufacturing processes resonates with the project’s eco-conscious approach.”

Approached by a long-term client to create an atmosphere of tranquillity and sophistication for an over-50s retirement village, Tara and the team at Studio Collective used EGGER materials to rejuvenate an array of premium facilities. “For this project, our objective was to create a visually stunning design while upholding our commitment to environmental awareness,” Tara explains. Throughout the design process, Tara employed EGGER products to establish “a fresh benchmark for excellence”.

To create a visually stunning design while also upholding her commitment to the environment, Tara chose the EGGER range. Not only is it highly sustainable but it also presented “a diverse array of colours and timber grain options, offering numerous opportunities for the project,” she says. For the clubhouse space, Tara used Natural Kendal Oak on the cabinetry throughout, creating a warm and inviting ambience. In the lounge areas, she opted for EGGER Apricot Nude U232 ST9 and EGGER Natural Carini Walnut H3710 ST12 panels, both of which help to boost the village’s overall aesthetic.

Sustainability is a cornerstone of Studio Collective’s work. “As designers, we hold the responsibility of crafting designs that will withstand the test of time, prioritising the use of ethically sourced and durable materials,” she says. The studio is committed to incorporating sustainable design principles across various sectors, including hotels, hospitality, luxury retirement living and residential homes. “This commitment involves a thoughtful consideration of environmental impact, guiding the design process towards a more ecological approach,” explains Tara.

“For this project, our objective was to create visually stunning designs while upholding our commitment to environmental awareness.”

Dedicated to finding environmentally friendly materials for their projects, Anny and Tara have exemplified responsible specification with their choice of EGGER. Now in the draw of ForestOne’s Specified Responsibly EuroCucina Trade Competition with like-minded designers and architects, the December winners encourage others to follow their lead and Specify Responsibly.

Specifying Responsibly — ForestOne Announces EuroCucina Round 8 A&D Trade Competition Winners

Specifying responsible material choices, Gavin Hepper of Concepts by Gavin Hepper and, for the second time this year, Annie Brereton of Authentic Spaces have been recognised as ForestOne’s Specified Responsibly EuroCucina Trade Competition winners for November. For their use of EGGER’s wood-based decor products and dedication to Specifying Responsibly, Gavin and Annie have gone in the draw for a chance to win the 2024 Grand Prize of a trip for two to EuroCucina in Milan, Italy.

Engaging with EGGER’s wood decor products, Gavin and Annie have created projects that cater beautifully to the needs of their clients. Additionally, the two winners – with help from their ForestOne representatives – have exemplified conscientious specification. For a terrace house renovation in The Rocks, Sydney, Gavin used the PerfectSense Feelwood Black U999 TM28 panels, while Annie used PerfectSense Cashmere Grey U702 PT panels to bring a cool and calming aesthetic to a new kitchen in a truck being overhauled into a motorhome.

For The Rocks project, Gavin was engaged for a full interior renovation of a terrace in this historic area of Sydney. After meeting with the client, Gavin says he opted to “retain the architectural bones and heritage feel of the property but modernise the interiors to deliver a contemporary space for city dwelling, with a masculine edge and dark and moody vibe.”

Gavin worked with ForestOne’s Annette Fanna to help with the specification process, and chose PerfectSense Feelwood panels for both the kitchen and dining space. “The technical advancements of the product – including its textured timber grain and anti-fingerprint properties – delivered the textural surface for the dark and moody vibe [we wanted] while also being serviceable for our clients and their young children,” Gavin explains. Moreover, it provided the perfect base for the metallic highlights throughout the home which, in turn, drew together “the colour palette and textures of the joinery and natural stone”.

Gavin embraces a sustainable ethos in all his work and is a firm believer in educating his clients about the importance of specifying correctly. “Our preference is to support suppliers and manufacturers that offer sustainable options that are fit for purpose and have a lesser environmental impact,” he explains. Working with ForestOne allowed Gavin to back up his conversations with clients about sustainable design with proven data. “Annette always ensures we have the most up-to-date samples and data on hand,” he says. “And she is always on hand to answer any queries we have regarding the performance of the product and how best it will fit into our projects.”

“Annette is always on hand to answer any queries we have regarding the performance of the product and how best it will fit into our projects.”

For a slightly unusual project, Annie and her husband Shane at Authentic Spaces designed a kitchen for a Scania Truck with Box Body that is being converted into a motorhome. The space accommodates a spacious living and kitchen area, bedroom and full bathroom, totalling about 28 square metres. “Our client travels around Australia as a judge at equestrian events,” Annie explains. “He wanted a vehicle that was very comfortable to travel in and that is a complete home away from home when he is on the road. He also intends to travel extensively for leisure in the coming years, so it was important to design a space that would accommodate extended periods on the road while maintaining all the creature comforts of home.”

In response, Annie and Shane designed a full kitchen, pull-out bar, wardrobe and bedside table using products specified by ForestOne. The kitchen is finished in a two-tone combination: PerfectSense Graphite Grey U961 PT on the lower cabinets and Cashmere Grey on the upper cabinets and pantry. “As we weren’t hindered by weight restrictions, we were able to specify standard cabinetry materials,” Annie explains.

Though this is Annie’s second win in ForestOne’s Specified Responsibly EuroCucina Trade Competition, she says she always returns to working with ForestOne due to its larger sheet sizes “as we find it gives us more flexibility when designing.” Moreover, “we often reverse-engineer our designs to ensure as little wastage as possible on every sheet. If we do have leftover material, we endeavour to incorporate it into the design or another part of the project.”

By always consulting with their specification representative, Kelly Turner, Annie and Shane are able to discover the most appropriate materials for the job. “In this case, we specified PerfectSense knowing that the motorhome will be travelling right around the country. We want it to look just as pristine in five years as it does on the day it is installed, and we know that PerfectSense will achieve this.”

“We want the motorhome to look just as pristine in five years as it does on the day it is installed, and we know PerfectSense will achieve this.”

With each of their projects, Gavin and Annie have chosen EGGER materials to bring longevity and tactility to their projects. Moreover, with the help of their ForestOne representatives, both winners have been given invaluable insights into the company’s sustainability practices, information they can then pass on to their own clients and like-minded architects and designers.

Invaluable Choices – ForestOne Announces EuroCucina Round 7 A&D Trade Competition Winners

Dedicated to making conscious material choices, Grainne Devlin at Design & Co and Jessica Borgeaud at Jackson Teece have been recognised as ForestOne’s Specified Responsibly EuroCucina Trade Competition for October. With their use of EGGER’s wood-based décor products and dedication to specifying responsibly, Grainne and Jessica have gone in the draw for a chance to win the 2024 Grand Prize of a trip for two to EuroCucina in Milan, Italy.

Through the use of EGGER’s wood décor products, Grainne and Jessica have uplifted each of their projects with considerate material choices. Alongside the help of their ForestOne representatives, as well as the desire to use more sustainable materials, the winners exemplify diligent and responsible specification. For a full apartment renovation, located in New Farm, Queensland, Grainne employed Natural Carini Walnut panels. While Jessica used Natural Kendal Oak to imbue a warm and welcoming aesthetic for end users throughout her project, the Opal Aged Care facility.

For Project Caravelle, Grainne renovated a full apartment for her clients who were downsizing from a large acreage home to an inner city apartment. Complemented with an expansive terrace overlooking New Farm Park, Grainne’s clients “wanted to emphasise the botanical feel inside, adding hints of elegant English and Parisian charm,” says Grainne. “As a couple, they embrace colour and texture [which allowed] us as designers to be creative with our choice of finishes.” She continues. Specifying the Natural Carini Walnut throughout the clients internal robes and ensuite joinery, “the timber tones perfectly emulate the warm timbers in the neighbouring parkland and help to bring the feeling of nature indoors,” she says.  Furthermore, as the two spaces were some of the more utilised spaces within the home, Grainne wanted to specify a durable, scratch resistant product that was also sustainable. Moreover, as the product had “a certain tactility that feels natural and earthy to touch,” Grainne explains, she knew it was the perfect choice for these areas.

Placing a responsibility upon herself and the design firm she works for – Design & Co –Grainne ensures that both parties have a huge responsibility in creating lasting designs. “Not only should our designs create a space for the most comfortable and aesthetically beautiful habitat for our clients,” Grainne says, “but everything we specify is functional and fit for purpose.” Moreso, everything Grainne, and Design & Co, specify they consider where the item has come from and what they can do with it at the end. “We always try to choose products which will impact positively towards the environment and be kind to our land,” Grainne highlights. Always striving to utilise as many recycled products as possible, Grainne selects EGGER products due to its many sustainable advantages. While working with ForestOne specification representatives, it is the knowledge in which they pass down to Grainne who can then share and educate her own clients that is invaluable.

“We always try to choose products which will impact positively towards the environment and be kind to our land,” Grainne highlights.

Working with a prominent aged care provider on two new facilities in Brisbane’s inner-city suburbs, Jessica at Jackson Teece has catered towards the needs of elderly residents who require continuous care. “Recognising the significance of a personal touch, our design philosophy revolves around creating spaces that resonate intimately with each resident,” says Jessica. For this particular project “we have provided areas that foster communities, from a ‘town centre’ on ground level, to smaller neighbourhoods for residents on their own level which connects to their own room.” By selecting EGGER’s Natural Kendal Oak laminate, Jessica was able align the brands ethos with Jackson Teece’s values and feel confident putting forward a product that will be retained through the tender process.

Focused on building upon the foundations of purpose and longevity, Jessica has always considerate to both the end user and environment when it comes to material selections. “Using products that are sustainable and quality made encourages the end user to value the design and want to retain it for years to come,” Jessica explains. Furthermore, Jessica believes that there is still a long way to go with educating clients when the bottom line is dollar driven. “Aligning ourselves with products and suppliers [like ForestOne] that can satisfy both a sustainable product while maintaining a relative price point is where we aim to align ourselves,” Jessica explains. Thankful to her ForestOne representative, Kellie Cross, Jessica and the team at Jackson Teece were kept informed of the latest products and offered comprehensive insights into the companies sustainability practices. “This ensures that when we make specifications we are not just choosing a finish; we are selecting a product that goes beyond aesthetics, contributing to a more sustainable and promising future,” Jessica says.

“Using products that are sustainable and quality made encourages the end user to value the design and want to retain it for years to come,” Jessica explains.

With each of their projects, Grainne and Jessica have chosen materials that not only add value to but also are considerate to both environment and the end users. Moreover, with the help from their ForestOne representatives, both winners are given invaluable insights into the companies sustainability practices in which they can then educate their own clients.

Authentic Choices – ForestOne Announces EuroCucina Round 6 A&D Trade Competition Winners

Annie Brereton of Authentic Spaces and Aaron Wailes of GreenCoast Building Design have taken home ForestOne’s Specified Responsibly EuroCucina Trade Competition for September. For their use of EGGER’s wood-based decor products, Annie and Aaron have gone in the draw for a chance to win the 2024 Grand Prize of a trip for two to EuroCucina in Milan, Italy.

By showcasing EGGER’s wood-based decorating products, Annie and Aaron have imbued their projects with authentic material choices. Guided by their ForestOne representatives, as well as the desire to use more sustainable materials, the winners exemplify diligent and responsible specification. For a project located on two hectares of bush just outside of Ballarat, Victoria, Annie employed the EGGER Apricot Nude and Rose White laminates and Natural Halifax Oak throughout the kitchen renovation. Aaron, meanwhile, used EGGER’s Alpine White laminate and Natural Hamilton Oak in a home project in Coorparoo, Brisbane, to create a clean, modern aesthetic.

Focused on designing spaces that are representative of how their clients live, Annie and her husband Shane – the duo behind Authentic Spaces – work alongside clients to produce designs tailored specifically to their needs. On their current project, Tree House, Annie and Shane acted as both client and designer. For the kitchen renovation, they began by taking the existing small space and maximising its floor area to transform it into a functional and striking kitchen. By designing their own home, there was a level of flexibility that “helped us laser focus the design to be relevant to how we live and how we want to use the space, and that is very much the crux of our business,” explains Annie. She adds that Authentic Spaces is dedicated to creating “multigenerational houses that will serve the lifetime of their families.”

With re-use as a driving force, Annie consciously works to create sustainable results for both her own projects and those of her clients. “Sustainability has always been at the forefront of our design choices,” she says, “and that stems right back before a project even starts.” Once a project has been taken on, Authentic Spaces first looks at what existing elements can be re-used before focusing on new sustainable materials. For Tree House, Annie and Shane approached ForestOne representative Kelly Turner to specify EGGER. “We are a very small husband and wife duo, a little player in the industry, but from the moment I reached out to ForestOne, they treated us like any other business,” says Annie. Visiting the ForestOne showroom, the couple were shown the “innovation and the practicality of the products and what can be achieved. ForestOne, and especially Kelly, have been so incredibly helpful teaching us about products but also specifying EGGER for not only our own home but for other projects, too.”

“Sustainability has always been at the forefront of our design choices,” Annie says, “and that stems right back before a project even starts.”

For Coorparoo Home, Aaron from GreenCoast Building Design has created a new home that was “based around an active family and designed with a traditional sense of style to fit into the Queensland topography,” he says. The home centres on a courtyard-style setting that gives the family connected spaces as well as areas to break away. “The design is very simple in form,” Aaron says. “It is focused around the idea of a client’s lifestyle and that is a big part of our company ethos.” Employing EGGER’s Alpine White and Natural Hamilton Oak throughout the entire project – including the mud room joinery, two kitchens and laundry – Aaron explains that the product offered a connection to the existing residence, which was completely reconfigured. “Aligning with a company like [ForestOne] EGGER through the specification of materials helps to add value to the end result,” he says.

When taking on a new project, Aaron always thinks of how the design can bring value to the lives of his clients, with longevity a vital consideration. “If you can design for a 100-year life span and create something that is suitable, both ergonomically and pragmatically, and can be passed from one generation to another, that to me is sustainable design,” he says. ForestOne was not only able to meet Aaron’s product requirements but provide larger sheet sizes and education on the materials and how he could employ them more responsibly. “ForestOne, and Kellie [Cross] in particular, is available when we need them. They have a willingness to educate not only us but our clients and those we work with.” Additionally, EGGER’s ability to create products that meet sustainable requirements as well as aesthetic ones have helped Aaron create a home that is modern and eco-friendly and offers a connection to its surrounds. “The two products we chose look and feel good, and they both offer a deep connection to the home’s history as well as the Queensland surrounds.”

“ForestOne, and Kellie in particular, is available when we need them. They have a willingness to educate not only us but our clients and those we work with,” says Aaron.

With each of their projects, Annie and Aaron have specified materials that not only add value to but also create a highly liveable environment for their clients. Alongside ForestOne representatives, both winners have contributed to the movement towards using more authentic and environmentally kind materials.

Focused Choices – ForestOne Announces EuroCucina Round Five A&D Trade Competition Winners

Focused on choosing materials that enhance their respective projects both aesthetically and ecologically, Kate Anderson of Kate Anderson Design and Frances Cosway of White Pebble Interiors are ForestOne’s Specified Responsibly EuroCucina Trade Competition winners for the month of August. Due to their exemplary use of EGGER’s wood-based décor products, Kate and Frances have gone in the draw for a chance to win the 2024 Grand Prize of a trip for two to EuroCucina in Milan, Italy.

With assistance from their ForestOne representatives, Kate and Frances have employed EGGER decorative products for each of their winning projects. To complement their designs, Kate and Frances have specified meticulously and catered to the needs of their individual clients. Along with this, both winners have showcased how various kitchen and living room designs can be fulfilled through the use of sustainably made materials.

Tasked with creating a twist on a modern biophilia kitchen design, Kate crafted “a friendly, open plan kitchen that not only looks aesthetically pleasing but also promotes wellbeing and a better connection to the natural [surrounds] and outdoor features on the property,” she explains. Additionally, Kate wanted to design a kitchen that allowed for easy access to an outdoor dining area, blurring the lines between inside and out. The design allowed Kate to blend contemporary style with nature-inspired elements through the use of sustainable materials, such as the EGGER Black U999 TM28 PerfectSense® Feelwood panels and EGGER Vicenza Oak. “As a sustainable and green-friendly material, it was a must in keeping with the client brief of incorporating elements of biophilia design into a modern kitchen [renovation],” says Kate.

As a specialist kitchen designer, Kate tries to incorporate as many sustainable products as she can. “Promoting responsible and ethical design practices are a value we appreciate at Kate Anderson Design,” says Kate. Moreover, Kate and her team encourage clients to make conscious selections. “We are big on providing our clients with the most up-to-date product knowledge on materials [that are] available on the market,” she enlightens. Working with ForestOne also allowed Kate the opportunity to work with someone who was just as passionate about sustainability and who believes in the products they are selling. “Kellie Cross from ForestOne is always available for training and continues to keep us up to date with our product knowledge whenever the team or myself need assistance,” says Kate.

Tasked with creating a twist on a modern biophilia kitchen design, Kate crafted “a friendly, open plan kitchen that not only looks aesthetically pleasing but also promotes wellbeing and a better connection to the natural [surrounds] and outdoor features on the property,” she explains.

With a love for EGGER materials, Frances has employed a variety of products for many projects, including her EuroCucina entry, Glamis Avenue, which saw her use the unique EGGER Niagara Green for the living room cabinetry. Additionally, Frances has used the EGGER Natural Halifax Oak for the ensuite vanity and benchtop, EGGER White Chromix for the laundry benchtop and EGGER Black Brown Sorano Oak for the internal cupboards of the kitchen. However, Frances’s Radleigh Drive project saw EGGER’s Black Brown Sorano Oak used once again, this time for pantry cabinetry, shelves, panelling, benchtops for the cellar and the walk-in wardrobe. Thanks to the texture and wide colour range of EGGER, Frances was able to recommend and use EGGER for many of her designs. “Many of our clients are sustainability focused but are not aware of EGGER. So once we tell them of the sustainable practices and recyclable nature of EGGER products, they are all in,” Frances explains.

Building her own home in 2013 – which won awards for its sustainable nature – Frances has continued to incorporate sustainability as part of her company’s ethos. “It is really a part of what we do and the reason that I have personally been sustainability focused for well over 10 years,” says Frances. “I live and breathe the sustainability story.” Even whilst building her own home, Frances worked towards creating a dwelling that was far more sustainable than anything that was being built at the time. Inspired to use materials that enhance passive living where possible, Frances and her team at White Pebble Interiors specify “sustainable – Green Tag accredited – where possible, whether our clients ask for a specific sustainable solution or not,” she says. “As EGGER is cost competitive, it makes sense for us to use them for [sustainability] reasons.”

“Many of our clients are sustainability focused but are not aware of EGGER. So once we tell them of the sustainable practices and recyclable nature of EGGER products, they are all in,” Frances explains.

With their responsible use of considered materials and focus upon providing services that go above and beyond, Kate and Frances have demonstrated how designing for the future can be achieved. Moreover, with the assistance of ForestOne and their respective specification representatives, both winners have showcased how EGGER enhances interior design, whether it is a kitchen renovation or full-home detail.

Crucial Choices – ForestOne Announces EuroCucina Round Four A&D Trade Competition Winners

Through their conscious material selections, Kara Kennedy of DC8 Studio and Theo Sismanellis of Mint Kitchen Group have each won ForestOne’s Specified Responsibly EuroCucina Trade Competition for the month of July. From their use of EGGER’s wood-based decor products, Kara and Theo have gone in the draw for a chance to win the 2024 Grand Prize of a trip for two to EuroCucina in Milan, Italy.

By employing EGGER’s wood products, Kara and Theo have elevated each of their projects through clever specification and sustainable design. Guided by ForestOne representatives, as well as the desire to use more sustainable materials, the winners exemplify diligent and responsible specification. For his project, Ascot Vale, Theo employed the EGGER Vicenza Oak in many areas, while Kara used EGGER’s Natural Halifax Oak for her project Stockland Armstrong Creek; the respective designs allowed the winners to implement positive changes for end users.

Engaged by Stockland Halcyon to rejuvenate the Victorian House library for its over-55s land lease communities, Kara from DC8 Studio designed the external and internal colour schemes. Due to the project’s location in the outskirts of the city, Kara took inspiration from Port Philip Bay, Dandenong Ranges and Mount Macedon as well as regional areas. “Each colour scheme has its own distinct flavour,” says Kara. As such, the city aspect of the colour scheme consisted of more refined and contemporary choices, with a classic dark and white theme. Meanwhile, other spaces featured a softer palette, consisting of light greys and washed-out timbers or warmer tones and muted greens. “We specified EGGER not only for its highly sustainable, eco-conscious properties but also for its beautifully coloured and textured selection of products,” says Kara. Kara chose EGGER’s Natural Hamilton Oak, White Halifax Oak, Natural Halifax Oak and Tobacco Halifax Oak to complement her colour schemes.

As the selection of products for the material palette played a crucial role in the design process, particularly the timber elements, Kara knew she wanted each colour scheme to have its own striking timber feature that worked well with the overall theme. Due to this, EGGER woodgrains were selected, as the products revealed a “unique timber hue and texture in a very elegant and contemporary way,” explains Kara. As DC8 Studio aims to design better places for people, Kara’s selection of EGGER products complements the company’s ethos. “When specifying products, we prefer to purchase from companies that share our values,” she says. “And when it comes to being eco-friendly and environmentally responsible, choosing which products to purchase is important.”

“We specified EGGER not only for its highly sustainable, eco-conscious properties but also for its beautifully coloured and textured selection of products,” says Kara.

For Ascot Vale, Theo completed a full renovation of an original period-style dwelling and created an extension that radiated a more modern aesthetic. For the renovation and contemporary extensions, Theo employed EGGER’s 18-millimetre Woodgrain Laminate Board for “the entire kitchen, walk-in-pantry, family room, main bathroom and ensuite,” he says. Additionally, the EGGER Vicenza Oak was used alongside an “impressive mixture of EGGER of woodgrains,” he continues. Focused on delivering a sustainable design, Theo reasons that it is crucial for several reasons “including environmental preservation, resource efficiency and long-term viability.”

Considering ecological concerns when renovating a space, Theo chooses to use sustainable building materials. “[We] look for products with recycled content, such as reclaimed wood or recycled metal,” he says, “and [we also] consider using locally sourced materials to reduce transportation-related emissions.” Additionally, Theo also looks at natural lighting, landscaping, smart technology and longevity when designing, renovating or adding extensions. With the help of ForestOne, Theo was able to visit the Melbourne showroom, which offered the opportunity to see and experience the products before selection. Furthermore, “All the staff have a passion for their products and their service is next to none,” he says.

For Ascot Vale, Theo completed a full renovation of an original period-style dwelling and created an extension that radiated a more modern aesthetic.

Though working on vastly different projects, both Theo and Kara have chosen EGGER materials to complement their work and leave a positive mark by specifying eco-friendly materials. Assisted by their informed representatives, the winners were able to specify consciously and, as such, complete their designs with respect to their clients and the environment.

With the help of their ForestOne representatives, each winner proves that the right material can uplift any interior space. The EGGER Natural Kendal Oak was used to enhance Philip’s multiple projects, whilst Julia chose EGGER’s Natural Halifax Oak to supply an authentic finish to her project.

Approached by Renascent to complete multiple projects for the Nine Group, Philip refurbished the 4BC radio station, including the newsroom. Having used several EGGER products previously, Philip expresses that he often returns to the timber-look laminates – in this case, the Natural Kendal Oak. “We look to biophilic design at ThomsonAdsett to connect our commercial spaces with the natural environment and provide a better health outcome for the users,” he explains. “The timber-look laminates that EGGER décor provides fit the bill for a lot of our projects.”

Philip and his team are always searching for new ways to reach more sustainable outcomes, “from specifying products that have inherently more sustainable properties to working closely to standardised sheet sizes [and] creating designs that will work for longer periods of time,” he says. As such, working with ForestOne has helped Philip meet these aspirations to create more striking and lasting designs that feel timeless. “We rely heavily on our sales reps to be able to deliver our projects,” says Philip. “Kellie has been fantastic as our representative, providing technical information, pricing, sampling and confirming stock availability for our short lead-time projects.”

Tasked with designing five spec suites on one floor, Julia from Bearspace wanted to create spaces that fostered a sense of mindfulness. As such, Julia put forward a design proposal that reinterpreted the Japanese tradition of Shinrin-Yoku – the therapeutic act of forest bathing, brought to life through the inclusion of EGGER materials. Embracing ergonomic design, Julia employs materials that create a connection to the natural environment. “These are seen in the finishes,” she says. “The majority of the materials chosen has recyclable and sustainability at the forefront of the product.” Included in suite one’s boardroom is EGGER’s Grey Cipollino Marble laminate, whilst in suite two, the EGGER Natural Carini Walnut laminate finish is used for the boardroom tabletop. Additionally, EGGER’s Diamond Grey laminate finish was chosen for suite five’s workstations.

As well as embracing a connection to the natural environment, Julia remains conscious of her own impact on the ecosystem. “It is becoming more prominent in everything we are doing and an important dimension we need to consider for our designs,” says Julia. Furthermore, Julia understands that it is the job of a designer to design ergonomically. “We put a lot of thought into how our designs will impact the people who interact with them,” Julia explains. Extending this thought process into how it will impact users in the long-term, Julia has incorporated natural elements into each spec suite to create a more balanced, harmonious, rhythmic and comfortable space for tenants. “We designated where these areas were to accentuate the different functions of each office space,” Julia clarifies. “This integration with the design assists in creating energised spaces, which are exciting for the tenants, [whilst also] encouraging and attracting people back into the office.”

Through Philip and Julia’s selection of EGGER materials, both winners have showcased how the right product can uplift a project and the end user’s experience. Moreover, ForestOne has guided and supported the winners’ selections with informed knowledge as well as around-the-clock help when needed.

Meaningful Choices – ForestOne Announces EuroCucina Round Two A&D Trade Competition Winners

After carefully considering each of their material choices, Brittany Afif of AJ Lawson Designs and Dana Tosolini of Concepts Interior Design have won ForestOne’s Specified Responsibly EuroCucina Trade Competition for the month of May. With their use of EGGER’s wood-based décor products, Brittany and Dana have joined the other entrants for a chance to win the 2024 Grand Prize of a trip for two to EuroCucina in Milan, Italy.

For their individual projects, Brittany and Dana employ materials that both uplift the interior space and consider the environment. As a passionate advocate for eco-friendly materials, Dana employs EGGER’s expanded black options for her project, Sue Le Residence, choosing the U999 TM28 Black. Likewise, Brittany also thoughtfully considers the materials she employs in her Two Bays Road project, trustingly using EGGER’s Brown Tossini Elm to instil a genuine connection to the Australian landscape.

Nestled in the lush greenery of the Mount Eliza landscape is Brittany’s Two Bays Road project. Looking to source natural products that replicate the Australian environment, Brittany employs “a stunning colour palette of neutral tones, with hues of deep reds and variations of greens,” she explains. Alongside strong textures, Brittany also sought to use natural light to create a warm and inviting home for her clients. Influencing Brittany’s choice to use EGGER’s Brown Tossini Elm for all custom-made cabinetry within the home was the sustainable nature of all EGGER products, which aligned with her own methods of design. “Our strategy is to help reduce environmental toxins and improve the conditions with the home as well as the health of its future residents,” says Brittany, “all while helping to protect the climate and conserve natural resources, which is vital movement into the future.”

As the demand for ecological design grows, Brittany acknowledges that we all need to start looking at the way our daily lives impact the natural environment. “At AJ Lawson Designs, it is our strategy to specify responsibly at every opportunity we can and promote our clients to live responsibly,” explains Brittany. “We want to create seamless living and try to help people create homes that are functional and specific to that client and their style of living,” she continues, “and also live seamlessly with the environment.” Choosing to work with ForestOne and specification representative Ben Holod – who introduced Brittany to EGGER’s range of products – was due to the brand’s knowledge and commitment to protecting the environment. Additionally, “Ben’s passion for the products and specifying responsibly is contagious,” praises Brittany.

“Our strategy is to help reduce environmental toxins and improve the conditions with the home as well as the health of its future residents,” says Brittany, “all while helping to protect the climate and conserve natural resources, which is vital movement into the future.”

Located in Canberra is interior designer and director Dana from Concepts Interior Design, who chose to use EGGER’s U999 TM28 Black for design elements in her winning project as well as her other three projects. “It is our go-to for [a] black-textured wood finish in a fingerprint-proof option,” says Dana. “What we find is that most black décors leave fingerprints behind, but when we heard about the TM28, we were so excited about it that we went back and re-specified the finish.” With one project based in the Sovereign Islands, Queensland – which Concepts Interior Design was the interior specialist for – EGGER’s U999 TM28 Black was used for the larger joinery sections of the downstairs wine cellar, providing both a fingerprint-proof and textural finish that suited the home’s high-end design.

The second project, located in Canberra, consisted of thoughtful renovations, with the U999 TM28 Black employed for elements in the living room and cellar, whilst the third project saw the U999 TM28 Black used for the majority of joinery aspects within the apartment. “It adds a real luxurious texture to the wall – which I think is quite nice – and gives it a little more warmth to the end result in a more economical way,” says Dana.

Through ForestOne’s specification representative Annette Fanna, Dana and her team at Concepts Interior Design, Alyssa and Isobel, were able to specify a material that not only emphasised ecological choices but also provided a sophisticated look. With their dedication to balancing aesthetics with ecological materials, Dana and her team have previously specified a range of materials, but they often return to ForestOne. “If you [for example] are comparing another product and you have the option to pick something that is ForestOne, you are going to pick it,” says Dana. Alyssa agrees that “it is about having the choice and being able to show the clients that there are choices when it comes to products.”

Furthermore, working with Annette Fanna, who took the “time to explain how the grain worked,” says Dana, allowed Concepts Interior Design to understand how the product would work within their projects. “Also, having her present to us in our showroom really helped making a decision, as we got to see the product in person,” adds Alyssa. “When we asked for larger samples, Annette was very accommodating and sent us one straight away. It was a great help.”

“It adds a real luxurious texture to the wall – which I think is quite nice – and gives it a little more warmth to the end result in a more economical way,” says Dana.

As demonstrated by Brittany and Dana’s specification of EGGER materials, their passion for designing homes with more economically sound products is apparent. Moreover, thanks to the guidance of each ForestOne representative, both winners have ensured that their projects effectively reach their respective ecological goals.

Proactive Selections – ForestOne Announces EuroCucina Round One A&D Trade Competition Winners

Exemplifying effective choices of eco-friendly materials, Cromwell Property Group by Melanie Johnson and the design team at Gray Puksand, and MMG by Evan Lancman of BRL Contracting, have both won ForestOne’s Specified Responsibly EuroCucina Trade Competition for the month of April. With their exemplary use of EGGER’s wood-based décor products, Melanie and Evan have been entered into the draw for the 2024 Grand Prize to win a trip for two to EuroCucina in Milan, Italy.

With the guidance of their respective ForestOne representatives, Melanie and Evan have confidently used EGGER decorative products for each of their designs. As each workspace came with its own set of requirements, both Melanie and Evan were diligent in meeting the design needs for their individual projects. The winners have also showcased how specific project needs can be fulfilled through the use of sustainably made materials to provide an enduring design.

With Cromwell Property Group, Melanie – as part of the Gray Puksand team – wanted to create a space that exemplified her client’s desire to challenge the ordinary office environment. As such, the Gray Puksand team, with Melanie, were tasked to design a workspace that focused on a curated and tailored experience that connects people, spaces and technology while also promoting collaboration, wellbeing and learning. The “design language needed to be centred on balancing a timeless aesthetic with warmth and comfort, [which were] crucial facets of the client’s brief,” Melanie says. Catering to a variety of working styles, the workspace includes an “inclusive and engaging entry space [that] anchors the two floors, bringing greenery, light and opportunity for interactions to a commercial environment,” continues Melanie. Fostered over the two levels, the design dedicates one floor to culture and socialisation, whilst the other promotes the welfare of workers, including physical, mental and social wellbeing.

Throughout the Cromwell Property Group workspace project, the key EGGER products specified include the Natural Kendal Oak, Tobacco Pacific Walnut, Cashmere Grey, Beige Textile and Stone Grey, which was incorporated as a feature within the joinery to elevate the design. Additionally, Natural Kendal Oak was utilised across all aspects of the fit-out, including joinery, furniture and storage spaces. “The high level of detail in this product assists in creating a natural and warm palette across the space,” informs Melanie, before explaining that “the versatility and adaptability of EGGER’s décor products allow us to specify colours, which complement the overall design language, giving us the flexibility to create cohesive design narratives.”

More importantly, “the sustainable attributes of the EGGER boards allow us to specify a product that not only achieves a project’s aesthetic vision, but also has a positive environmental impact,” continues Melanie. Throughout the process, Melanie was able to rely on her specification representative, Kellie Cross, “from specification and client approvals to tender documentation and construction commencement,” she says. “ForestOne has been a dependable and supportive partner.”

Catering to a variety of working styles, the workspace includes an “inclusive and engaging entry space [that] anchors the two floors, bringing greenery, light and opportunity for interactions to a commercial environment,” says Melanie.

Enhancing an office space, Evan Lancman of BRL Contracting, as well as builders and architects from the Cachet Group, assisted in completing a full office fit-out for Cachet Group’s MMG project. “We had the opportunity to provide our insights into the design and changes that would aesthetically suit the client’s expectations,” says Evan. “The outcome is a beautiful combination of glass cabinets with elegant curves, integrated LED lighting and carefully crafted woodwork.” Elevating the office fit-out was EGGER’s Natural Kendal Oak wood décor. “The reason this particular EGGER finish was selected was due to the natural feel and sleek design that was going to highlight key joinery items throughout the project,” Evan explains.

Focused on sustainable design, Evan and BRL Contracting have assisted architects in presenting the EGGER range as an alternative finish in order to meet the consistently growing needs of ecological design. “There has been a notable change within the industry that most stakeholders are presenting a passion for the environment,” says Evan, “and within BRL Contracting that is something that is extremely important to our values as a company.”

Working with a reputable company such as ForestOne, which provides environmentally sustainable options, contractors like Evan can be confident in the products they are working with. “The team at ForestOne, especially our sales representative Vicki Dwyer, were exceptional in providing a service that was never questionable,” says Evan. “We worked very closely with Vicki to understand what we were trying to achieve and [she] directed us to the best-suited product for this project.” As with a majority of projects securing the required stock as well as having consistent communication with sales representatives can be a challenge, yet “ForestOne always found a way to provide a quality product and exceptional service,” Evan praises.

“By consciously advocating for and incorporating EGGER products, we align our designs with sustainable principles, ensuring that our projects contribute positively to the environment and the wellbeing of those who inhabit them,” says Melanie. Through their proactive selection of EGGER materials, both Melanie and Evan have prioritised eco-friendly choices introspective of their individual projects. Moreover, with the help of the ForestOne representatives, the winners were able to ensure that their designs effectively met their respective clients’ desired expectations.
